Unleavened Bread or Chapattis

Unleavened bread is simply bread made with only flour and water. There is no yeast added, so there is no need to allow the dough to rise before cooking it. As a result, the bread is flat and crunchy, almost like a cracker. For this delectable unleavened bread (chapattis) bread recipe, you will need:

8 ounces of plain whole meal bread
Salt

This recipe will make six small discs of bread.

1. In a large bowl, combine the 8 ounces of flour with 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Warm 1/4 pint of water in either the microwave or on the stovetop and add that to the flour mixture.
2. Knead the dough well. After kneading, cover the dough and allow it to sit for 30 minutes.
3. Cut off a piece of dough a little large than the size of your thumb. Sprinkle flour on the counter and roll the small piece of dough into a 8 inch disc.
4. Place a large skillet with a bit of oil over medium heat. Place the disc of bread in the skillet and let it cook until brown. Be sure to turn the bread over to allow both sides to cook.
5. Continue steps 3 and 4 to make the additional discs of bread.
